Citadelle Adventure
Enjoy Haiti!

The Citadelle Laferrière is a must-see during your visit to Haiti. The largest fortress of its kind in the Western Hemisphere, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site stands majestically on top of the Bonnet a L’Eveque mountain, three thousand feet above the sea. Citadelle Laferrière was built between 1805 and 1820 by King Henry Christophe to defend the new nation against French invasion...

Cap Haitien Citadelle Tour

The fortress stands tall, bristling with 350 cannons and mortars and overlooking the bay of Cap Haitien. But first, our proficient tour guide will pick you up from your Hotel to take you to a small town "Madeline", just a few minutes away from the City of Cap Haitien to enjoy an ORGANIC breakfast, at a traditional Haitian household where you will have the opportunity to learn about local products and sample some for yourself, including Coffee, cocoa and natural fruit.

After breakfast, will be heading to "Milot" and there we will tour of the ruins of the Sans-Souci Palace, the residence of King Henry Christophe, and yet another UNESCO World Heritage Site. This magnificent palace was the site for opulent feasts and dances. However, the earthquake in 1842 severely damaged the palace, which was then never rebuilt. The next stop will be Citadelle through the roads paved with limestone. Along the way, you will pass through villages and breathtaking views of the countryside. Your tour guide will also tell you the story behind this majestic fortification. Upon reaching the base of the Bonnet a L’Eveque mountain, getting to the fortress has two options for you: a 30-minute uphill walk or a horseback ride. You will also visit the Artillery Museum with the unique concentration of 18th century cannons in the continent.

After your tour of La Citadelle, it's time to sit down for a traditional Haitian lunch of rice, beans, meat, salad, fruit and sweets. Everything is served at a typical house in "Madeline" as you can't go back to your hotel famished. Here, you will also enjoy the Haitian folklore and tambour during your meal. After lunch, you will drive to Cap Haitien for a quick visit before getting back to your hotel.

Note: This tour is only available if you are in Cap Haitien or docking in Labadee.

I was on a cruise tour last month with my family, I was lucky enough to visit la Citadelle in the North of Haiti. I got picked up from Labadee for the tour, the guide Charlotte was great, very knowledgeable about the history of la Citadelle and also spoke very good english. My wife wasn’t 100% on board for the tour because of what is usually told on the news about Haiti but, she was glad we did it and now she wants to go back next year so we can spent more time there. Great place, nice people.

Eyeopening tour of Haiti I am ashamed to say that I have lived in the Dominican Republic for over 8 years and this was my first trip to Haiti. There is so much false information and misconceptions about Haiti - I only wanted to make the trip with a company that I felt I could trust. I was completely blown away by the 4 day tour that Tours in Haiti put together for us. On our trip we saw the Citadel, Labadee Bay, Amiga Island, and 2 different waterfalls. We began the trip with a horse ride up the Citadel, where you are literally in a castle in the middle of the clouds. You could see for miles and miles below and it was all rolling green mountains. We visited the San Souci palace that, even in ruins, looks so picturesque like you are in the middle of a painting. By far my favorite part of the trip was Labadee Bay. I live in the Caribbean and have seen beautiful beaches, but Amiga Island was beyond any beach I have ever seen before. The water around the island was a clear turquoise and the island seemed to glow as we approached it. From the food, all of the beautiful sites and the lovely people, my trip to Haiti was amazing. Tours in Haiti organized the entire trip from hotels, sites, and where to eat. I felt completely safe the entire time and am already making plans to go back again.I really want to thank Tours in Haiti for showing me the beauty of Haiti. It really was an eye opening experience.
